Aims of the Website

The intention is to make available the music and the text: to look at the historical background of the song; its context, the society from which the song originated; and what they mean to those people who continue to sing them. You can find out more about the Songs.

There are many customs observed throughout Britain, some of a very early origin, others a hundred years or more, and some surprisingly of recent origin. You can find out more about the Customs.

There are a great many musicians playing folk tunes on a wide range of instruments. This has prompted the presentation of folk tunes. You can find out more about the Tunes.

With Michael Wright’s research into jewish harps, a section on folk instruments seemed to be a necessity. Those of you who agree please make contact with me, and we can explore the possibilities. You can find out more about the Instruments.
