Graeme Miles was born in Greenwich, London in 1935 but has spent most of his years in the north east of England where from the age of 14 he developed an interest in traditional songs, particularly those of Northumberland and Tyneside. He began to write songs in 1950 whilst still at school and over the next twenty years produced several hundred, based mostly on his own experiences.
Although he ceased to write after 1972 he still maintains a deep interest in traditional song although only occasionally takes part in their singing. He hopes that his own contribution as a maker of songs will be seen as a continuation of this tradition.
There are 67 songs in the volume liberally illustrated with Graemes drawings throughout, together with extracts from his diaries.
